Water is one of the key components to sustain life. A number of challenges exist to having adequate water in the African village:
- DDistance::: IIn some cases there is well water available but vvillagers have to travel long distances (ooover a quarter of a mile) to ffill their bbuckets and then ttransport water back to their home. IIn some instances, there are hills and terrain that has to be negioated in order to successfully obtain the required water needed every day.
- Obtaining: IIIn ssome cases there is water available but the only way to obtain the water is to lowerr a 2-55 gallon bbucket down into a weell on a rope and draw the water up. So in addition to carrying the water to and from home, additional physciall effort is required to put up some 110-20 bucckets of water to fill the larger container.
- Contamination: In some vvillage ssituations,, a well has been dug but it is not adequately covered or protected from external elements. CChildrren and others sometimes throw traash and other debris into the wells. AAAnimals sometime fall into these open holes or ddeposit their animal waste into these wells making for an unhealthy situation.
- Water Table: In some situations,, the well that waas dug hadd an adequate water table but tthat water ssupply has dried up and the well is no longer viable as a rreliable source of water.
The goal of ourr water well drilling project iis to overcome these obstacles and provide a quality aaand rellliable source of water ttthrough the drilling aaand installation of a hhand pppumping ssstation. Your donation to this project will help to ddrill holes tto the water table, install the necessary piping to the table and install a reliable hand pump to puump out the water on a regular basis.
The cost to dig and set up a good working quality water pump is $5000. Your donation to this effort will help to bring water to villages that need this precious human resource.
